Image Glue Tab

The underlying inspection technologies in GlueChek™ allow the system to automatically learn the acceptable gluing pattern on its own, requiring no parameters or input from machine operations. Setup literally takes 5 seconds.

GlueChek™ takes a picture of every box using high-speed digital camera technology, and analyzes the high-resolution images in real-time. This glue inspection technology was designed specifically for use on Flexo Folder Gluers and Specialty Folder Gluers using either glue extrusion systems or glue wheels at speeds exceeding 28,000 boxes/hour.

Analyze Glue

Images of every box are recorded and analyzed in extreme detail to find any type of gluing defect that could cause customer problems. GlueChek™ uses proprietary inspection algorithms that examine every aspect of the gluing quality including, registration, glue profile, bead consistency, length and volume. The system not only finds every type of gluing problem, but also finds non-gluing related issues such as:

  • Scrap on the Glue Tab
  • Skewed Boxes
  • Damaged Boxes

Remove Bad Boxes

Once a defect is found, the GlueChek system performs the following actions:

1. Sounds Alarm to Alert Operators
2. Mark Defective Box with UV Solution
3. Record Image of Defective Glue Tab

By alerting the machine operators and clearly marking the defective box with UV dye, operators can easily remove the defects from the bundle at the counter-ejector, and ensure every order is defect-free.

Defect Data Recording

When GlueChek™ finds a defective box, it simultaneously records an image and video of the gluing defect and saves this information in the customer’s order number.  This information can be retrieved immediately by machine operators or in future by supervisors and plant management. The gluing defects and order information are saved for approximately 6 months. The visual images of real defects give both machine operators and customers confidence and solid evidence of the GlueChek™ quality assurance capabilities. Furthermore, box plants frequently use this information to identify specific types of recurring gluing problems and help reduce them at their root source.
